Niagara Dance Company is a professional contemporary dance company located in the heart of the Niagara Region. After ten years of focussing their artistic pursuits in the Toronto area, Kathleen Martinez-Hughes and Mary Jo Mullins recently founded the Niagara Dance Company to increase public awareness and access to this art form. Ms. Hughes and Ms. Mullins currently serve as Artistic Directors for the company. They are dedicated to creating a repertoire of original work, to performing and presenting Canadian dance, and to bringing a diversity of aesthetic styles to the stage.
The company and our affiliated school, The School of Niagara Dance Company, are currently working on several initiatives to build a strong and vibrant dance community in the Niagara Region. The company provides season performances, commissions the choreography of Canadian dance artists, and offers a Choreographic Performance Workshop Series and Music & Dance Improvisation Jams. It is also a goal of the Niagara Dance Company to establish an Artist-in-Residency program in the area. The school offers community classses in Graham-based technique and Contact Improvisation and also offers a variety of workshops. A unique mentorship program to enrich the emerging dance artist through training and performance with the Niagara Dance Company is currently underway.
