Summer Intensive
Our Summer Intensive program is designed for both intermediate-advanced dancers and pre-professionals. This one week intensive provides dancers with classes in Graham based technique, Creative Process, Repertoire & Creation. This program provides a wonderful opportunity for serious dancers and teachers of dance within our community and abroad to increase their exposure to contemporary dance and to take their personal training and artistic abilities to new heights. Immerse yourself in a week of classes by some of Canada's foremost contemporary dance artists. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop technique, gain valuable personal insight, and enjoy creativity. Working intensively takes you on a wonderful journey to spectacular destinations, greatly expands your awareness of self and deepens your commitment to dance. Past participants have enjoyed taking classes with and learning dance work by Niagara Dance Company Artistic Director, Mary Jo Mullins and renowned Canadian dance artists Suzette Sherman and David Earle. All of this and more to be enjoyed right in the heart of the Niagara.
PROGRAM
GRAHAM BASED TECHNIQUE
Graham technique is derived from the work of American modern dance pioneer, Martha Graham. These classes provide dancers with a deep understanding of the movement principles of breath, contraction, release, high lift, and spiral originating in the body's core and radiating out into space. This technique develops extremely strong and expressive dancers, capable of communicating the full range of human emotion. All classes are accompanied by live percussion, progress through codified exercises from the floor to standing work and from travelling movement phrases to jumping, all exploring a range of dynamics, rhythms and phrasing.
CREATIVE PROCESS
Engage yourself and explore your own creativity through dedicated play time.
Create your own movement studies through guided exploration activities lead
by professional choreographers.
REPERTOIRE & CREATION
Repertoire is an exciting and challenging way for emerging artists to enhance their technical and performance skills. Students get an opportunity to work with choreographers to learn existing repertoire and/or have new work created on them.
